As Hollywood has discovered, New York is a great place to make movies…
A screen adaptation of Richard Matheson’s 1954 science fiction novel “I Am Legend” has been filming in downtown New York this past week. Will Smith is staring in the lead role of Robert Neville, the ‘lone survivor’ of a bacterial pandemic. It’s a typical ‘big hollywood movie’, with a planned release for the holidays at the end of this year.
They were filming one of the big scenes right around the Brooklyn Bridge, and to ‘dress the set’, they lit up both the Brooklyn and the Williamsburg bridges. There aren’t many places that can offer a backdrop like that.
My office overlooks it all, so I was able grab a photo and a short video clip:

Along the Brooklyn side, you can see all the spot lights they were using to light them up. Though the photo and video don’t do it justice, it really looked great.
Even with all the virtual sets being used in films today, there are times you just can’t beat the real thing…

That is a really neat picture! I thoroughly enjoy Woody Allen’s “Manhattan” because of the b & w shots of the city, which is a very different way of looking at things, but this is beautiful nonetheless.
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article at The Digital Edge Blog, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
THE CITY LOOKED GREAT ANF THE BRIDGES CAPTURE BY LIGHT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. THE MOVIE WAS GREAT AND ALL THE SPECIAL EFFECTS. WILL SMITH WAS AWESOME AS USUAL…
Entertaining movie but not believable. I recommend reading All of Yesterdays Tomorrows.
